About Richard Driver
Dr. Driver joined West Virginia University School of Medicine in 1994 as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology. He completed his Anesthesiology residency at WVU 1990-1993 and his Fellowship in Obstetric Anesthesia at the (former Bowman Gray School of Medicine) Wake Forest University School of Medicine 1993-1994. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2000. During his career Dr. Driver has served as Director of Obstetric Anesthesia Services, Assistant Residency Program Director, Residency Program Director, Chair of the Clinical Competence and Education Committees, Director of Anesthesia Services for WVU Hospitals, served on the WVU Faculty Senate, WVU SoM Promotion and Tenure Committee, WVU Hospitals Practitioner Health, Executive, and Intravenous Pump Committees, WVU SoM OB/Gyn Chair Search Committee, and as a Charge Anesthesiologist. Dr. Driver was appointed Interim Chair of the department in October 2008 and following a national search was appointed as Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and promoted to Professor in the clinical track in June 2009. Dr. Driver’s career has been particularly recognized for continued excellence in teaching. Dr. Driver has been board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology since 1994 and has completed the Voluntary Recertification Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology. Dr. Driver retired at the end of 2019 after 32 years of service to the school and provides clinical staffing and teaching to the Department as needed.
