Dr. Shaver is a native West Virginian, raised in the small town of Sutton, WV.  She attended Marshall University for her undergraduate and medical school education and first came to Morgantown, WV in 2008 after being accepted into the WVU Department of Emergency Medicine Residency Class of 2011.  During residency, she developed a previously unrecognized interest in academia and residency direction and became involved in residency leadership as an Assistant Chief and Chief Resident. After graduation, she could not fathom working aside any other people but her DEM colleagues, and thus immediately joined the WVU Department of Emergency Medicine as a faculty member, and continued to serve in Residency Leadership positions as Assistant and Associate Program Director prior to being named Residency Program Director and Vice Chair of Education in 2014.  Dr. Shaver is passionate about giving back to the department and residency program that has fostered her career development in academia and works tirelessly with the leadership team to ensure that residents are trained to practice competently and independently in any practice setting that they chose. Although Dr. Shaver loves her career as an academic emergency physician, when she goes home, there is no better job than being a wife to her husband, Darrell, and a mother to their two children, Madison and Rylan. You can rest assured that Dr. Shaver will invite you into her home on several occasions throughout the year and send you out with a to-go box of food.
