About Peter Giacobbi
Guided imagery is the controlled visualization of specific experiences intended to assist with health, performance, or preparation for events. Guided imagery is a common tool used in cognitive-behavioral therapy to treat a wide range of psychological and emotional difficulties. This psychological technique is also the most widely used mental skill used by coaches, athletes, and sport psychologists for sport performance. Dr. Giacobbi’s expertise is in the development and testing of guided imagery interventions for use in exercise settings. He is also very interested in using guided imagery to address other health behaviors such as food cravings, psychological stress, and sleep. He is currently involved with a study funded by the National Center for Integrative and Alternative Health to test the impact of guided imagery on smoking cessation using delivered by a Smoker’s Quitline. Finally, guided imagery can be delivered using mobile technologies and he is also testing it’s impact on sleep, diet, and exercise with pregnant women.
