About Toni DiChiacchio
Toni DiChiacchio, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, FAANP is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner holding a Doctorate of Nursing Practice. She is currently the Associate Dean for Faculty Practice, Community Engagement & Health Policy at the West Virginia University School of Nursing. Prior to entering academia, she owned and practiced in a primary care clinic with a focus on delivering care to the the under-served with chronic disease in Monongalia County.
She has been funded through HRSA and SAMHSA, among others, to improve readiness to practice for new FNP graduates, increase clinical competence for nurse practitioners in treating substance use disorder (SUD), and to improve access to quality care for addiction. Clinically she practices with WVU Medicine’s Department of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry and collaborates with an inter-professional team to expand their Comprehensive Opiate Addiction Treatment model throughout West Virginia.
Dr. DiChiacchio is a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and has been recognized for clinical excellence by several organizations including the AANP, the WV Center for Nursing, and Nursing Spectrum magazine. She has served as the WV state representative to AANP, Treasurer, President and Health Policy & Legislative Chair for the WV Nurses Association, and regional leader for the WV chapter of the International Nurses Society on Addiction. She has mentored numerous state-wide nursing leaders.
Her interests also include health care policy and she has served as content expert to the WV Legislature on practice and policy issues related to the nursing profession, collaborated with state and federal lawmakers and regulators to craft policy related to APRN practice and regulation, payment for APRN services, and treatment and funding for SUD.
