I am a PhD student in Microbiology, Immunology and Cell Biology Department at West Virginia University. I graduated from Montana State University and Istanbul Technical University with dual-degree in Bioengineering. Before coming to WVU, I also earned my master’s degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering at Koc University, Turkey.

I joined the laboratory of Dr. Mariette Barbier in the Spring of 2016.  My current objective is to understand how the Gram-negative opportunistic bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa manipulates the host response during infection and its implication on the innate immune system & bacterial clearance. My ultimate goal is to find novel solutions and therapeutics against P. aeruginosa by studying host-pathogen interactions using both molecular and computational biology techniques.

Some activities that I enjoy in my spare time are dancing, fishing, cooking, skiing, playing tennis and spending time with my family & friends. I am married with Cagri Kilic who is a PhD student at West Virginia University, Aerospace Engineering Department.
