About Angela Wowczuk
Dr. Angela Wowczuk is a 2008 graduate of the West Virginia University (WVU) School of Pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Dr. Wowczuk earned a Bachelor’s degree in Animal and Veterinary Sciences and Nutrition from WVU in 2007.
In 2007, she participated with a medical brigade team from WVU and the University of Pittsburgh to set up a temporary medical clinic in rural Honduras in cooperation with the organization Shoulder-to-Shoulder. After graduation, Dr. Wowczuk worked for Rite Aid in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for 3 years and then at CVS in Moundsville, West Virginia for 3 years, during which time she served as President of the Ohio Marshall County Pharmacist Association. She has worked for the Rational Drug Therapy program (RDTP) since 2013, working with the Bureau for Medical Services, PEIA, and the CHIPs programs to provide prior authorization review and determination services as well as providing drug utilization review for the West Virginia Medicaid program. During her time with RDTP, Dr. Wowczuk also worked as a student preceptor, participated in the Hepatitis C project ECHO at Ruby Memorial Hospital, and worked with the RDTP’s Safe and Effective Management of Pain Program on opioid case review authorizations.
Dr. Wowczuk became Director of RDTP in April 2019 after serving as Assistant Director the previous year. She has also been part of the Specialty Consultants panel for Pharmacist Letter and Prescriber’s Letter since 2018, and has served as a member of the American Academy of HIV Medicine’s Mid-Atlantic Chapter Steering Committee since 2019. She is a current Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and a credentialed American Academy of HIV Medicine HIV Expert. In addition, Dr. Wowczuk serves as a preceptor for students in the WVU School of Pharmacy.
