About Makenzie Bartsch
Hometown: Casper, Wyoming
Undergraduate institution: University of Wyoming
Medical school: University of Washington
Why did you choose WVU? My heart is in the mountains and I love living in the trees of Morgantown. I also value the small/university town feel and appreciate the friendly attitude of the people living here. I have always been impressed too by the residency leadership and love having a strong woman as a program director.
Brief bio: I grew up in a small windy town in Wyoming with the most amazing family anyone could ask for. After a career playing volleyball for the University of Wyoming Cowgirls, I graduated and bought a plane ticket off the continent to find some adventure! I spent a couple of gap years traveling as far and wide as I could and have visited 30 countries so far. I backpacked through Europe, trekked the Inca Trail in Peru, made it to Mount Everest basecamp and summitted Mount Kilimanjaro, lived for a while in Vietnam and Malawi and bungee jumped in Zimbabwe. I travel the world mouth first and enjoy eating the most bizarre foods I can find which have included rats, crickets, eyeballs, brains and tarantula. No matter how much I do though, my bucket list always seems to keep growing! When I am back at home I live for a workout each day, a French press of coffee, a long hike or a day on the ski slopes and reading a good book! I have also been known to sample the local craft beer scene of any town I am in and enjoy that especially when accompanied by any one of the many friends who I am lucky enough to call mine!
