Hometown: Pocatello, Idaho
Undergraduate institution: Brigham Young University

Why did you choose WVU?
The first thing that pulled me to WVU was the friendly staff and family feel to the program. Residents and attendings are happy here. WVU also has a large catchment area that covers many rural communities which I am excited to serve. Along with the main hospital emergency department, I get the opportunity to rotate in community and rural emergency departments. Finally, West Virginia’s slogan of wild and wonderful is very appealing as I can continue my outdoor adventures.
Brief bio:
Being from Idaho, I love the outdoors and try to spend most of my free time outside. My first job out of high school was working as a wildland firefighter. During my undergraduate education I realized I wanted to go in to medicine and graduated with a BS in physiology and developmental biology. Before medical school I worked as an optometry technician and as a post-surgical CNA. Recreationally, I love to ski, mountain bike, raft, and rock climb. Lucky for me, my wife loves the outdoors as well and we try to be out as much as we can now accompanied by our 1 year old. My goal after completing residency is to work in a rural hospital or one that has a large rural catchment area. My current emergency medicine interests are in resource limited medicine including wilderness and rural medicine.
