About Sandra Nixon
Hometown: Lynchburg, Virginia
Undergraduate institution: Clemson University
Medical school: University of South Carolina School of Medicine - Greenville
Why did you choose WVU? It was difficult to rank programs during a year when we couldn’t visit in person, but the people that make up the WVU EM program stood out by a mile even over Zoom. They are genuine, inviting, and have made the transition into residency better than I ever could’ve imagined. I also knew I wanted a well-established emergency medicine program with a diverse patient population, and this is absolutely that! A huge bonus: I LOVE the outdoors and Morgantown lacks nothing in that area!
Brief bio: I spent most of my childhood in central Virginia where my family still lives, then I attended Clemson and stayed in South Carolina for medical school. I took one gap year before medical school to travel and ended up living in Guatemala for most of the year – it was an absolute dream! Outside of work, you can usually find me traveling/exploring the outdoors with my husband, cheering for Tigers football, or cozied up reading my latest historical fiction find.
