About Emily Ollmann
Hometown: Belvidere, Illinois
Undergraduate institution: University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
Medical school: University of Illinois, Chicago
Why did you choose WVU? Even with the online format everyone on interview day was very warm and welcoming. I loved how family and support for those with families was openly and comfortably discussed during the interview and was not treated as a taboo subject. I want to work in a rural setting after residency and the experience at WVU will help prepare me for that career.
Brief bio: I grew up on a farm in Illinois with the majority of my extended family living within a 20 minute drive. I was a year-round athlete and continued playing basketball in college. Between completing my Bachelor’s degree and starting medical school I worked in the Emergency Department as a scribe for 2 years in Festus, Missouri before moving to Fort Collins, Colorado to complete a Master’s of Science program in Biomedical sciences. I have lived in a variety of places with populations ranging from 5,000 up to 2.7 million and find myself most at home in the small town setting with neighbors and patients you run into at the supermarket. This is especially true now that my husband and I have a daughter that we want to raise in a small community environment.
