I am qualified to conduct palliative care research with a special focus on drug addiction. During my Fellowship I supported Robert Arnold, MD with his HIV pain clinic which has a population with many challenges including addiction. Through this experience I developed an interest in complex social situations and treatment with extenuating challenges such as addiction past or present. After working in the HIV pain clinic I was driven to start a sickle cell palliative care clinic, a patient population with numerous psychosocial challenges. These clinics and now working in West Virginia where drug addiction is prevalent has made me interested in learning how to deliver high quality palliative care as well as being cognizant of patients with aberrant drug behavior.

A brief background search of current literature on aberrant drug behaviors in palliative care patients, revealed that there was little information on the subject
